In-Depth Training on Enabling Storage Flexibility in Interconnection Procedures: A Guide for DER DevelopersThis training is the second in a two-part series on storage flexibility.
Energy storage—whether standalone or paired with solar—can provide a number of customer, grid, and environmental benefits thanks to its unique operating capabilities, particularly its flexibility. In order to enable the controlled import and export of storage, interconnection rules must be updated with several key provisions, including acceptable export control methods, new screens in the interconnection review process, and the ability for interconnection customers to modify their system design to mitigate grid impacts. This training provides a practical, in-depth review of these key provisions, with guidance for DER developers on how to understand and navigate the interconnection process with the new screens.
Participants in the training will learn:
- How to recognize acceptable export control methods within interconnection procedures
- Which screening and study processes should be updated or added to evaluate export-controlled DER systems; and
- How interconnection customers can modify their project design after submitting an application, using the recommended interconnection rule language.
This training is the second in a two-part series on storage flexibility. The first part, To Export or Not to Export: How Interconnection Policies Can Enable the Flexibility of Energy Storage Workshop, provides an overview of what storage flexibility is and how it can be incorporated into interconnection rules.
